I researched the necessary components for a full Settlers of Catan set and designed a custom, nuclear apocalypse themed, board and carrying case using SOLIDWORKS and Adobe Illustrator.
Utilizing SOLIDWORKS, I designed all the individual pieces of the board including the hexes and all their individual aesthetics, the board frame, number tokens, and 'harbor' tiles. The pieces are designed in a way to be fit together with precision and each hex has engravings to fit the number and harbor tokens.

Next, I designed variations of the board and housing assemblies to maximize material usage to produce the most pieces with the least amount of wood. This meant making a few variations of the layouts to make all necessary pieces.
When designing the carrying case, I created a prototype to perfect the tolerances of the joint fittings. This allows them to be press fit and held together without any wood glue necessary, reducing assembly work through purposeful design.
At this phase of the process I have completed the laser cutting and assembly of the board, ensuring everything fits together well. My next steps are to stain the hexes to fit their respective themes and add a finishing coat to all pieces!
